László Sára

Sára LÁSZLÓ graduated at the film director’s faculty of the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, Hungary and also completed a one-year production training in the Parisian film school ESRA. She co-founded Campfilm in 2007 and is working as a producer or occasionally as a co-author since.

The films produced by Campfilm address social issues and have a strong cinematic quality. The works completed so far have participated and gained recognition at both national and international festivals, such as the 45th Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes (Soft Rain by Dénes Nagy), the 43rd IFF Rotterdam (Another Hungary by Dénes Nagy), the 62nd San Sebastian IFF (Cain’s Children by Marcell Gerő), the 72nd Semaine de la Critique section of the Locarno Film Festival (The Euphoria of Being by Réka Szabó) or Hot Docs IFF (Her Mothers by Asia Dér and Sári Haragonics).

Sara is a Eurodoc, Nipkow Programme, EAVE, DokIncubator alumni and a 2019 Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program Grantee. In 2018 she defended her DLA dissertation at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest.

She and her musician partner Nóra decide to adopt a child and focus on building a family. The film follows the two women through their long and ultimately successful adoption process to bring their young daughter home. But tensions begin to rise between the two as Virág thrives in her role as mother and Nóra struggles to find her place in the family. Besides the challenges of becoming parents, the infiltrating Hungarian politics and the social tension is increasingly affecting their life and future prospects.

Back in the late 1980s, many Hungarian youngsters dreamed of visiting a unique summer camp. During the three-week holidays, boys and girls flew far from the realities of the last days of socialism to an imaginary land named Epipo. A realm of role-playing and magic, where they even their own, created language. The charismatic camp leader cast a spell over the children, yet behind their innocent games lurked the sinister shadow of humiliation and concealed abuse. When in the present day, the daughter of one of Epipo’s former citizens -the director Judit Oláh- wants to attend a summer camp herself, the mother finds it unexpectedly tough to let her child go. After 25 years of silence, Judit, reunites with her old companions in an attempt to understand how Epipo’s insular and mysterious world of dark secrets is still a part of them all.

Éva Fahidi was 20 years old when she returned to Hungary from Auschwitz Birkenau. She was all alone, 49 members of her family were murdered, including her mother, her father and her little sister. 70 years later, aged 90, Éva is asked to participate in a dance-theatre performance about her life. Réka, the director imagines a duet between Éva and the young, internationally acclaimed dancer, Emese. Réka wants to see these two women, young and old, interact on stage, to see how their bodies and their stories can intertwine.

Éva agrees immediately.

Three women – three months – a story of crossing boundaries. Whilst key moments of Éva’s life are distilled into theater scenes, a powerful relationship forms between the three women.

The strength given by sharing their similar life-experiences might greatly boost the students’ chances of advancement. A noted trainer arrives to support the teachers in helping their students to learn, how to help both each other and themselves.
We follow a heart-warming mutual learning process, in which the all-enthusiasm aunt Ági and the right out of a burnout syndrome uncle Sanyi undertake to lead the student-training. However, they are just as much on shaky ground as the students themselves.
